MyPix, also known as MyPixMania is one of the leading European online digital photo processing services with its presence in over eleven countries. Since the company is pretty large, it offers some pretty reasonable prices on photo prints. MyPix offers a range of services such as free no limit picture storage and sharing with a complete range of products ranging from mugs, teddies, photo books, albums and pictured frames, all of which can be customised with the aid of over 250 photo products.
The MyPix site has been well organised. There has been links offered to all of most visited parts of the site. The registration process is quite quick. The home page has a massive link, you would have to be blind as a bat to miss, and you only have to enter your name, e-mail address and DOB to get the picture printing ball rolling. The site is more intuitive than ever before and quite colourful too. The link to “create album” is very prominent, we just found it a little harder to see amongst the other offer links on the post-registration page. Though it is just a minor hurdle, we did feel our ten seconds of confusion were worth a mention. They have listed all the possible photo options that you might be there for, such as travel, wedding, baby and birthday.
MyPixmania (Mypix) offers free and unlimited storage and album creation with no obligation to make a purchase. MyPix uses a Java file manager to browse your hard disk for photos. You can upload JPEG images of up to 20MB in size. In our tests, the Java uploader crashed Firefox 2, but was fairly stable under Internet Explorer. Unlike most of the online services we looked at, there is no downloadable utility to handle bulk uploads.
Once you have uploaded your images, you can use the Picnik online editing tool to adjust exposure, contrast, saturation and colour temperature. There is also a sharpening tool and red-eye removal for humans and animals. Once you have made your changes, you can select photos to add to an album that you can share with friends as a slideshow or 3D virtual album with turning pages.
Ordering is a step by step process at MyPix and it is quite simple. Just about anyone, even a novice user will be able to upload and order the pictures very easily. Once we had uploaded our chosen digital photos to our online album, it was relatively easy to pop them in our basket and crop them to make sure they would be presented as we wanted them to be.
MyPix offers a range of packages for photo prints like the All inclusive photo pack, Economy Photo Pack, Standard formats, Photo enlargements and panorama photo, poster prints and mix n match posters, Pocket photos and Photo art.
The All inclusive photo pack, as the name indicates, offers an all in one solution in a format that suites you. The package is available in two packs of 80 and 250. The Economy Photo Pack allows you to get all your photos developed as and when you like at low prices. This pack has five plans from 150 to 2400 prints in 10 sizes of 31/2″ x 5″ to 8″ x 113/4″. The standard photo formats, you get your digital photos printed individually. This package includes 24-hour order processing and the photos are developed on Kodak Royal Digital Paper. The customised posters allow you to enjoy your photos in all their glory and MyPix’s classic and mix’n’match posters are a great way of showing off your favourite photos. You can keep your friends and family close to hand with the pocket photos, and with this option, you can make your own pocket photos in just a few clicks. With pocket photos option, you get a set of eight photos of size 45mm x 35mm, printed in Kodak Royal Digital Paper photo paper.
