Everybody who has anything to do with photos will be familiar with Kodak. It is one of the earliest and most respected names in the industry of photography. The Kodak Gallery digital photo printing is an online photo printing service. Kodak Gallery was previously known as Ofoto. Kodak has got a makeover and its latest set of features has transformed the service from just a print shop to a useful image hosting service.
The Kodak Gallery website is one of the most organised and easy to navigate online photo printing sites that we have come across. The site is brand new, as Kodak Gallewry had switched over from Kodak Gallery Classic and had launched a new version of their photobook printing service site. Kodak has made these changes in response to user requests, and also to promote their enhanced photo sharing options. They can be said to be on par with the major social networks for photo sharing.
Uploading and ordering pictures is simply a pressure. Even a novice user should have no issues getting to whatever they are looking for. Kodak Gallery does both its main jobs quite well; that is, buying prints and gifts, and post your photos and friends. If this is all you are looking for, then you are going to be very pleased with this online photo printing service. However, if you are looking at more of advanced editing options or just customise the display area of image, you should looking more at services such as Picasa or Photobucket. Overall, its website design and easy to use construction makes it an ideal start for people who have never used an online photo service before. The layout is quite streamlined and has minimal gadgets too.
The ordering process can be done online, or you can just download the application on your system and organize the pictures sans internet connectivity. Since this application works seamlessly with the online service, it makes the whole ordering process extremely simple.
Kodak used to have a sluggish and very slow uploading system. Now you can upload a lot of images swiftly without the need of any add-ons. The best thing is, the images are automatically placed into the online album of your choice, and you need not sort them. The service allows you to upload about 400 pictures at once. As soon as uploading using the Windows utility is done, the program offers to open a browser window that directs to your online gallery, from where you get to create slideshows, share and buy them too.
During the process of ordering, it would have been nice if Kodak Gallery had suggested its customers to change their print size from 4 x 6 into 4 x 5.3, which is a size that is much more suitable for the pictures that are taken with a digital camera as well as minimises cropping.
The print quality is pretty mediocre, placing it below the leading services like Snapfish and SmugFug; that said, the amazing set of features and extreme ease of use is not to be forgotten. Most of the photos from Kodak Gallery were good, but there were a few issues that were noticeable, especially with cropping. In all of the photos, we noticed that the developers in Kodak Gallery has the main focus on making people in the picture look the best and the scenery being secondary. Black and white prints were quite disappointing as they were quite dark and looked kind of bluey. In a picture that had some visible clouding, Kodak had cleared up all of that for us and it looked quite clear and crisp. The issue again, was with the cropping. Dull colours and poor contrast both day and night time shots.
When we kept the pictures in sun to test its fading, there were quite distinct but minor changes. There was a reduction of blue and yellow tones and there was a slight increase with the red colour. Surprisingly, we thought that it made the pictures look good. Our shot of an amazing blue sky were unnaturally pale and dull. Note that, there flaws were noticeable only with side by side comparison. Even though you might not want to choose Kodak Gallery for your art prints, these photos are just perfect for albums and home blow-ups. We feel that the Bonus print offers lower prices, much better quality and more choices too.
One of the best features of Kodak Gallery is its free photo organisation application. The software is installed into your system’s hard drive and integrates it into the online account. This application allows you to manage the digital pictures, and all at that can be done without the need for you to be online. This software is compatible with both Windows and Mac Operating Systems. But, you will not find any other tool to edit your photos once they are uploaded. One of the best enhancements made with photo sharing is that, you will be able to download the photos in the same resolution that it was uploaded. Most of the sites do not allow you to do so, unless they have expensive membership.
Unlike most of the other online printing services, that ask you to tick at individual photos, this site allows you to just drag and drop complete albums and also individual pictures in the prints order. This means, there is no need of toggling between multiple screens, which is an absolute hassle.
You get editing tools both online and software applications. Kodak has also included free album storage as well as online storage. This online photo collection can be shared through Facebook. Note that, if your account remains to be inactive for a year, it will get deleted, so you have to buy something at least once a year to keep your account open and fully functional. Both of the gallery upload software as well as the online upload utility allows you to preview the images in large TIFF files and also as JPEG images.
As far as multimedia is concerned, Kodak Gallery does not offer you all of the features that the other online printing services offer, but you do get all of the essentials. You get to download high resolution pictures to your system, create slideshows and also send pictures via email; making the site a great place to store all of your pictures online.
Kodak Gallery seems to have reduced the prices since we visited it the last time. The prices are very reasonable and prove to be great value. The delivery costs are also not ridiculous. As we had mentioned earlier, by default the images are automatically zoomed and cropped in order to fit the page, and the white borders are also cut off. The wallet size prints are great for some of the clear mobile phone pictures; you can also get 4 x 6″ size prints of the camera phones with special borders. Printing is done on high quality Kodak paper. This Kodak paper is coated with resin and silver halide that is especially optimised for digital printing. Photo sizes of 8 x 10″ are available in both matte and glossy finishing. The digital photos are chemically stable as well as durable, because the prints are made out of 35mm film.
Once you have ordered, your photo prints and gifts will be delivered to your door steps via first class post to UK addresses.

Kodak Gallery is one of the best online photo gift shops around. What makes it one of the best is its ease of use. It has heaps of photo gift options such as mugs, calendars, cards, apparels, greeting cards, mouse pads, napkin holders and heaps more. The gifts too come with online editing tools, which we reckon you should use to stop Kodak Gallery from doing the cropping job for you. The Magic tile mug is one of the most interesting gifts from Kodak Gallery. When the mug is filled with a hot beverage, the photo appears in a tiled design on the mug. Then the photo magically disappears and turns black, once the beverage cools down. On ordering multiple photo gifts, you are offered very attractive gifts.

The PhotoBook creation software is one of the features that must not be ignored. This is the software that allows you to create your own photobook, something that differs from printing service to service. Though Kodak Gallery’s photobook software is not one of those “fancy” software, it proves to be one of the simplest, and is very straightforward. One of our favourite and unique features of the software is its ability to incorporate pictures from people who have shared albums with you. Hence, people can just upload photos and no need to send in any other way. Hence, this proves o be a great way to create a group projects. Kodak Gallery now offers a free personalised cover with leather covers and linen cut die. They also offer Eric Carle’s World theme and Hello Kitty themed books for the younger people. This is quite a positive expansion from their previous offers.
However, it has its own limitations too. You will be able to choose only one page background, but with a recent update, Kodak allows you to make changes to the background once you have started to create the photobook, however that one background will apply to the entire photobook. And, another big limitation is that, it does not allow you to change the order in which the pages had been created. That is, if you are looking to insert a picture in the beginning of the book you had been working on, you will have to do heaps of recreation. Though the photobook software does not offer any robust in-book picture editing, Kodak does offer free Easy Share Software. If you go on to edit the pictures with this software before uploading, then you may not miss the inside book editing that much.

One of the best reasons why you should choose Kodak is that, they have done deals with a lot of the local developers and hence, can ship your order to a range of locations for same day pickup. Some of their local pickup options include CVS, Ritz Camera and Target. Unfortunately, Kodak Gallery was able to deliver the pictures only in 5 days. Though this is not too long, it is still not that good considering that most of the other services take just three to four days. All the prints come in a light weight cardboard cover, inside a light weight cardboard envelop wrap.
The customer support from Kodak Gallery is excellent. It is very complete and surprisingly easy to navigate through. There are two standout features as far as customer support is concerned there are a couple of stand-out features. To begin with, the site gives direct access to the customer service reps during business hours. This is great for people like us who simply cannot take the automated machines or searching through the Q and A. The next incredible feature is that, the newsletter has just more than simple advertisements. They include tips on photography, tips on use of the site, photo contests, and some of the stunning pictures from its users. You will definitely not mark it as spam. All the information regarding the support can be found next to the FAQs on the help page, with stuff like phone, live chat, and mail support hours, which is from 6AM to 6PM PST.
It has been over a hundred years since Kodak joined hands with photography and has kept up to the times, with no compromise made to their integrity. The print quality is acceptable and the overall experience with them was quite positive. Its site is great for people who will not want a lot of display options, but love to have a good deal of printing and gift options. With fast uploading and order processing, the busy ones will love it. We certainly recommend Kodak for its excellent easy to use website, order process and customer service. With their online printing service, Kodak has retained their reputation as being one of the best to do anything with photography.
